YIN and YANG
Yang means in its original sense "the sunny side of the mountain", while Yin stands for the "shadow side of the mountain".
Other paired terms of Yin and Yang, which symbolise the necessary poles, are, for example:
Earth-Sky
Hot-Cold
Valley-Mountain
Low-High
Moon-Sun
Dark-Light
Weak-Strong
Woman-Man
In a healthy body there is a balance between Yin and Yang. The interplay of the two forces reinforces the flow of energy and leads to the enrichment of vital energy - Qi. If one of the two forces predominates, then this results in a "Qi disturbance" in the sense of an energy surplus or an energy deficiency. This manifests itself in malaise, fatigue or illness. Using acupuncture disturbances of the energy flow can be rectified. This can be done in terms of increasing or decreasing the Yin and Yang. In "Western", this means that too much or too little energy is compensated in certain regions of the body.
